How to Measure a Room
Measuring a room for flooring
If you’re thinking about installing hardwood floors, the first step to take before you start shopping is to measure your rooms to find out how much wood will be needed. Whether you’re installing the floor yourself or having it professionally done, follow these steps to determine how much material you’ll need.
Divide an irregular room into imaginary squares or rectangles.
Measure the length and width of each square or rectangle and multiply these two numbers.
Add all the totals together to determine the square footage of your room.
Round up about 10% for cutting waste and you have the total measure of square feet needed to install your hardwood floors.
Square of all areas into rectangles. Be sure to measure into doorways. Always add extra. It is better to have some material left over than to come up short.
Professionally installed or refinished Hardwood Flooring can dramatically increase the beauty – and value – of your home.
